DEPRESSION (see THOUGHT LIFE; see SUICIDE; see OVERCOME EVIL WITH GOOD)
DEVILS
Devils were originally angels but fell from this state when they followed Satan, and it is believed they had made up one-third of the angels of heaven (Revelation 12:3–9). They can trouble and possess lost people, as recorded in the Bible, but even then, only a few of the lost were possessed by devils. It is not possible for a believer to be possessed by demons (1 John 4:4; see EXORCISM; see ALIENS IN REVELATION, the second to the last button on left). There is a hierarchy of fallen angels or devils (Ephesians 6:11–12).
The devil is also able to deceive this world and blind the minds of the lost (Revelation 12:9, 16:14; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 2:2). Believers have been given power over devils in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord (see Acts 16:18, 19:13–17). “And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name” (Luke 10:17). Prayer and fasting increases power over devils (see Matthew 17:21). Your life and home should be cleansed from any books, magazines, films, memorabilia or symbols of the occult or devils (see Acts 19:18–20). We are not to make light of them or rail against them, “Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee” (Jude vv. 8–9; see SATAN).
