PURGATORY
A false belief that according to some is where Christians go after death to suffer for sins not cleansed in this life. The Bible teaches us about a place called heaven, a place called hell, and where we live, called earth, but no teaching on purgatory. And where in the Bible is it taught that we should have a mass for the dead that can help get them out of purgatory, or to pray for the dead? This idea came from man, not God. All my sins were paid for on the cross by Jesus Christ (Revelation 1:5, 1 John 1:9). Christians (the saved) go directly to heaven upon death; Christ told the thief on the cross, “To day shalt thou be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43; see SOUL SLEEP).
PURITY
"Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled” (Titus 1:15). “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8). “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world” (James 1:27). “Be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12).
Things that will help us to be pure: “And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure” (1 John 3:3). This “hope” that causes us to be pure is the belief in the return of Christ as stated in the verse before this: “when he shall appear” (see END TIMES). Be with those who live a pure life: “Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart” (2 Timothy 2:22). Think on pure things: “Whatsoever things are pure…think on these things” (Philippians 4:8).
